Hi all!

Situation:

3 Databases: two 8.1.6 on a w2000-server and one 8.05 on a nt 4.0.-server

One Client 9.2 on a XP.

It's possible for me to connect from the client to the 8.1. db's, but not to the 8.05. But you can connect from the 8.1. to the 8.05 via dba-studio.

When I connect from the 9.2.-client to the 8.05 I get a ora-12535!

I checked the tnsnames.ora and couldn't find any error!

I can ping all the servers and can also tnsping the 8.05.-db!

How can it be that there is a connect from the 8.1.6 to the 8.05 but not from the client to the 8.05 and why I can make a successful tnsping, but can't connect? And what can I do???

1. Is there a firewall involved?
2. in the tnsnames.ora file used by 9.2 client
   if
   the entries are like ( to connect 805 Db)
    ..
    ..
     (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVICE_NAME = prod805)
    )
    ..
    ..
then
try
     ..
     ..
     )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SID = prod805)
    )
    ..

or vice-versa

Thanks for your tip, but we solved the problem.
There IS a firewall, but it was possible to connect over the 8.1.6 db to the 8.0.5 per connection manager!
