We are trying to do budgeting for our Solaris servers (CPU, memory and disk) for next couple of years.  Does anyone have information regarding the increase of memory and CPU needed for Oracle 10g compared to Oracle 9i?

We found that Oracle 9i used around twice as much memory as 8i.  Does the same pattern hold for Oracle 10g?

I don't really follow why 9i used more memory that 8i as the SGA, PGA etc size is controlled by the init settings and the number of users. 10g is supposed to be more efficient than 9i and actually use less resources (CPU) and backup is more intelligent so it should result in reduced IO for that too...
