I run Oracle 8.1.6 on a Tru64 5.1 platform.
My OS crushed and i lost my oracle server application as well. after re-installing the OS i decided to restore the oracle server application from a Backup. I have also retored an image copy of my database.

But when i try to startup the database i get the following error:

ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment
Compaq Tru64 UNIX Error: 24: Too many open files

When i check the error code (27123) it tells me;
Cause: shmat() call failed

Please, I need help

Looks like you may have lost your shared memory/semaphores/file_handles kernel settings . Reconfigure them and restart the instance.
