is it possible to set up a UTL_FILE_DIR path that points to a directory on a different server than the database server?

Once the remote server's filesystem becomes available on the database server (via network mount) for read/write without any access issues, you could specify that in UTL_FILE_DIR, but not directly .

I am not sure I follow the response above.
In unix, I set up a utl_file_dir to point to
another unix server that is part of my network
configuration and I get the following when I try
to access it:

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29283: invalid file operation
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_FILE", line 449
ORA-29283: invalid file operation
ORA-06512: at "PRIME.PKG_CFE_XML", line 659
ORA-06512: at line 1

Writing to directories on the same server cause me
no errors.

Any help????
