Hi,
I installed oracle 8i enterprise edition on a windows 2000 professional edition. It worked fine after the installation but when i restarted the system and tried to login to the database (scott/tiger) i got an error message reading "oracle not available", "shared memory realm does not exist".
What could be the possible solution for this kind of problem?

Your database was not configured for an autostart.
goto controlpanel / services and edit the properties of the oracle database database services and listener services to startup automatically.
If there no services listed.
create one using ORADIM
and
optionally you may want to startup database everytime manually.
then use svrmgrl to start the database from command prompt.
svrmgrl
connect internal
startup
