Hi all,
I have got a Oracle 8.1.7.0 Standard edition on HP-UX at my site.

There is a request to update the Oracle RDBMS to 8174 but I have never done any patch update before.

Do I need to get an experienced DBA to install it for me or I can go ahead with the installation?

I have got about 18 months of Oracle DBA activities.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

S A

every patchset is accompanied by a readme file.
please go through it and follow it.
usuall procedures are
1. FIRST CHOOSE THE RIGHT PATCHSET ( OS, 32/64 bit etc)
2. shutdown the database
3. take a complete backup
4. install patchset
5. start database.

You don't need any special skills for this. See if something goes wrong - then you do.

Open the README.html file which commes with the patch archive file, read it carefully and go step by step. It's easy if you don't miss any step.

Hope that helps,
