Hi,

I need to run a small data warehouse, less than 100 GB, and I am being
offered an e450 4*400Mhz, 4GB Ram and have only experience in using
E10K's or Intel based servers.

So does anyone know what type of intel server this would compare too
and if this box sounds big enough for what I want to do.

TIA

Hi,
A 4*400 works out at Intel 4 * PIII 600Mhz (times 1.5). If you use NT/2000/XP then these will slow things down again NT/W2000/XP (4 x 800).

The Oracle Lic costs is the issue. Compare below:-

An IBM xSeries 250 with 2 X 900 Xeons/2MB cache, 4.5Gig RAM and 6 X 18GIG SCSI 10K disks & Utra 160 controller. will aprox $22K

The 4 CPU's in the Sun are going to cost $86.4K for 9i EE with the 2XIntel CPU will cost half the 44K plus 22K (system cost). You could also trade the E450 for a 2 processor E280 rather than going intel.

All I am saying really look at the Oracle costs first! If you live in the UK like me! change the $ sign for a £.
